JRD Tata is also the first chairman of the Tata Group. In 1947, the Indian Government took 49% of the company stakes and nationalized Tata Airlines, and Tata Airlines became Air India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2022, Tata Group acquired Air India back with a winning bid of Rs. 18,000 crores. Tata paid Rs. 2,700 crores in cash and will take Rs. 15,300 crores as debt. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the current chairperson of Tata Sons, is appointed as the chairperson of Air India as well on March 14, 2022.
