Forecasting a Summer Bursting with Wanderlust

With Flyopedia, Indian visitors are bracing themselves for a hot summer season this year, with early indications from travel businesses indicating exponential demand. You can book your cheap flight tickets to India from USA today because bookings for the country’s main summer months of April and June are already 30-40% higher than last year.

Officials at domestic airlines said that, while Indians will be out in force for the summer season, an insufficient number of flights is expected to cause an increase in airfare.

The Foreign flight reservations for the April to June quarter are 37% higher than the same period last year, according to Gaurav Patwari, vice president for air category.

Domestic Destinations in Demand

The European nation, known for its natural beauty, tracks visitor arrival figures from various nations using booked hotel room nights. Group escorted trips for Thomas Cook are rebounding strongly, according to Rajeev Kale, president and country head for holidays, MICE, and visa at Thomas Cook (India).

“Long-haul markets, driven by Europe, are at the top of our group tour business rankings, gaining more than 38% from the previous year. Reservations between Australia and New Zealand are up roughly 30%, while reservations in the United States are up 35-40% over last year, despite visa issues,” he noted. According to Kale, domestic locations are also witnessing strong demand, with interest in spiritual places such as Char Dhams, Ayodhya, and Dwarka up roughly 30% over last year.

In April, May, and June of last year, Uttarakhand welcomed 4 million, 7.5 million, and 8.3 million tourists, respectively. Sumit Pant, the director of marketing and communications at the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, stated that the Himalayan state hopes to outperform its performance from the previous summer. Airline Preparations

Bookings are “very healthy” on all leisure routes, domestic and international, according to an airline’s sales manager.

“This is a classic example of supply chasing demand. The new limits for pilot working hours, if enforced, will compel the industry to curtail flights by over 15%,” the official added.

IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, has announced that it will launch additional local and international routes during the summer. For example, the airline will begin flights to Indonesia’s Bali from Bengaluru in late March and enhance flights between Mumbai and Colombo. “As the vacation season approaches, these will add even more options…,” stated Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo’s head of global sales.

Cruise and Charter Tours

According to Kale at Thomas Cook, demand for Mediterranean cruises, Scandinavian cruises, and Alaska sailings from Indian visitors has increased by 25% over the previous year. “Lakshadweep yachting is likewise in high demand. Our Bhutan charters from Bengaluru are doing well, and we’ve added more departures to fulfill demand,” he said.

According to Daniel D’Souza, president and country head for vacations at SOTC Travel, there has been a significant resurgence in demand among senior citizen travellers in India since the pandemic. “Our premium cherry blossom tours for Japan and South Korea are driven by this segment,” he continued.

Challenges Ahead

Meanwhile, aircraft issues continue to plague Indian airlines. While 200 planes will remain grounded owing to engine problems and financial troubles at struggling airlines, carriers may also be forced to cancel flights if the government does not postpone the increased pilot duty hours, which will go into effect on June 1.

The new rules change the definition of a night period by an hour, from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., and limit the duty period to 10 hours. It also limits the amount of landings a pilot can make to two.

Airlines are attempting to compensate for the grounded aircraft by leasing jets for shorter periods of six months, but this may not be sufficient. While IndiGo intends to lease 15 aircraft, SpiceJet has announced that it will add 10 more aircraft on short-term lease for the summer season.
