Planning for the USA travel? New guidelines make it possible

International travelers around the globe are now making a move at the earliest. Since the US government has raised its travel restrictions, a lot of people have either safely arrived home to meet their families. Many students from India and people, who moved back to India with last-minute flights to India because of the sudden lockdown in March 2020 are also now moving back to the US. Check the information on guidelines released by the white house in the month of October 20201, and recent updates.

First and foremost even though many people are being welcomed at the airports in the US, there are still a lot of procedures to be followed and precautions to be taken. Firstly the recognized vaccines by CDC are those which have received approval from WHO and tests for COVID 19 are also pre-determined.

COVID-19 tests acceptable at your arrival are:

  1. Antigen
  2. NAAT
  3. RT-LAMP
  4. RT-PCR
  5. TMA

People should keep in mind that the test should not be more than 72 hours old from your departure time. Secondly, the test report has to mention either “negative” or “not detected” as any other diagnosis are not acceptable.

Note: Bharat Biotech COVAXIN is also recently added to the list of accepted vaccines after it gained WHO’s recognition. Many people from India were earlier were in a predicament as the regular but small available amount of vaccines made it difficult to get both the shots and some had to take mixed vaccine shots. They are also now relieved as not only COVISHILED but COVAXIN is recognized and if they are administered at least 17 days apart from each, that combination is also valid for all the above-mentioned vaccines.

SPUTNIK V, which is a Russian vaccine, is being reviewed by the WHO and thus so far is not added to the above list.

Main Requirements

Children below the age of 2 years are not required to provide any test report or vaccination certificate.

Fully vaccinated travelers need to show a certificate with their vaccination status and provide a negative coronavirus test report taken within 72 hours of departure to the US.

National residents of the USA, foreign students moving there for completing their education, military personnel of the US deployed in different regions and blood relations of a permanent resident of the US are permitted to enter the US grounds post-ban lift.

Special note for students; they should make sure to have written documentation of their schools and invite them to join the offline curriculum otherwise they may be stopped at the arrival.

All travelers are needed to be fully vaccinated, exempting children below the age of 18 years.

Those passengers who are engaged in wind farm activity, private air/sea crew, Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) activity, or other similar crew-member activities are also permitted to enter the US.
