Rules for Unaccompanied Minor Travel in IndiGo Airlines

You need to send your child alone on a flight journey and are worrying about it endlessly, even after booking the best plane tickets? Stop thinking about it anymore because IndiGo has a Flying Solo Service, where staff will accompany your child till their arrival at the destination and are in the care of their parent/ guardian again. Who is considered an Unaccompanied Minor?

Children above the age of 2 and below the age of 12 years are considered minors. For minors, IndiGo airlines provide the following assistance services.

  • Below 5 years: The service ‘Flying Solo’ is unavailable. The child must travel with someone 18 years of age and above.
  • For 5-12 years: Flying Solo service is available and the child can travel on all IndiGo flights.
  • For 13- 18 years: The child can happily travel alone or Flying Solo service is also available.

When should an Unaccompanied Minor report at the airport?

All Unaccompanied Minors should report to the airport a minimum 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and minimum 4 hours before departure for international airline flights.

Are there any documents I need to fill before my child travels with IndiGo?

Yes, the parent(s)/ guardian need to download and sign the Unaccompanied Minor form from the website (or just click the link provided here), and complete it at the point of check- in at each departure airport prior to travel. The form is also required to have the name and contact numbers of the parent (s)/ guardian (above 18 years old in age), who will meet the Unaccompanied Minor at the destination.

Is a valid photo ID proof of my child required?

Yes, a valid photo ID proof of the child and the parent/ guardian is required at the check-in point.

What kind of service is provided by the ‘Flying Solo’ to the child?

During Travel:

A staff member takes the child to the flight, where the cabin crew will look after them.

On Board:

The cabin crew keeps a close eye on the child to ensure that they have all they need. Snacks are also included in the ‘Flying Solo’ service as well. To ensure the best experience for the child, parents/ guardians are advised to pack necessary medications, warm clothes and a favorite game/ toy/ book in their carry- on baggage.

After Arrival:

After the flight arrives at the required destination, the ground staff will accompany and help the child with the necessary airport arrivals process. The parent/ guardian should be available at arrival hall at least 30 minutes prior to arrival of the flight to receive the child.

Are the parent/ guardian required to stay at the airport until the flight has departed?

Yes, they need to remain at the airport until the flight departure.

Is it okay for IndiGo services if the Unaccompanied Minor has a transit/ transfer?

If the stop at transfer station is less than 6 hours, and the child is booked throughout on IndiGo, the airlines can accept the child in the ‘Flying Solo’ service. If the stopover at transfer stations is more than 6 hours and/or involves night halt and/or transfer is on other multi flights except IndiGo, the airlines won’t be able to accept the child under the ‘Flying Solo’ service. When such cases arise, the child must be accompanied by someone who is 18 years of age and above.
